FeedBurner MyBrand Activated

|

I received my FeedBurner MyBrand technical email today. I was giddy with anticipation and yet disappointed because a) I had other things to do today and b) I really didn’t want to try anything wacky in the middle of the day. So tonight I experimented with it and was very happy with the outcome.

The process was, at least for me, extremely straightforward and simple. They let you know ahead of time that it is not for the feint of heart and to read the email in it’s entirety before you begin making any changes. I would definitely suggest this as well, just as I would with any major change.

The first change I had to make was to create a subdomain to hold my feeds. Instead of going to feeds.feeburner.com I will now be pointing to feeds.franzone.com… cool. So I created my subdomain. Easy. Now you have to create a CNAME DNS entry to point your new subdomain to the feedburner domain. This process will depend largely on your hosting and what process they allow or give you. I use 1&1 Hosting (very happy with them for a long time) and their process for this is extremely easy. I just entered the feeds.feedburner.com domain in the CNAME entry field and clicked OK. Done.

Now you just login to your FeedBurner account and go to the My Account page. Click on the MyBrand option. The third option down the page will have a text entry box where you can enter your subdomain. I simply typed in feeds.franzone.com and clicked the Save button. That’s it!

You can see the fruits of my labor by going to my new MyBrand feed at http://feeds.franzone.com/franzone. Now I haven’t updated all the links on this site yet because the DNS will take a full 24-48 hours to properly propagate throughout the internet. So if that previous link didn’t work for you… sorry. Try again later. 🙂 This weekend I will fully patch the site to point all of my feeds to the new MyBrand feed.

Have any of you other FeedBurner users tried the MyBrand option out yet? What have your experiences been? Do you have any horror stories? Any success stories? I’d love to hear about them. Thank you so much for taking to time to stop by.
