Friday Song Of The Day – I’m Yours

It’s been a while (last year) since I’ve posted a Friday Song of the Day. This song seems to get stuck in my head; which isn’t entirely bad. It’s got a nice island feel and it’s just down-right perky. I like it, so here is I’m Yours by Jason Mraz from his album We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things.

Well you dawned on me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks and now I’m tryin’ to get back
Before the cool done run out I’ll be givin’ it my bestest
and nothin’s gonna stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it’s again my turn to win some or learn some

But I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I’m yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you’re free
Look into your heart and you’ll find love love love love
Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing
We’re just one big family
And it’s our godforsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved

So I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I’m sure
There’s no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I’m yours

Do you want to come’a,
Scooch on over closer dear
And I will nibble your ear

I’ve been spendin’ way too long checkin’ my tongue in the mirror
And bendin’ over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and I laughed
I guess what I be sayin’ is there ain’t no better reason
To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
It’s what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue

But I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m yours
Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you’re free
Look into your heart and you’ll find that… the sky is yours
Please don’t please don’t please don’t
There’s no need to complicate
‘Cause our time is short
This is, this is, this is our fate
I’m yours…

Alvin and the Chipmunks Revival – Really?

51eysy4zzgl_sl500_aa240_I just overheard and television commercial in the room. It was Alvin and the Chipmunks singing Livin’ On A Prayer. No! For the love of all things holy… Noooooo! So I looked it up and sure enough; there is a new release of these deplorable (I mean adorable) vermin (I mean chipmunks) singing the latest pop hits. The album in called Alvin and the Chipmunks: Undeniable. Oh, I believe I can deny them. Didn’t we get enough of this crap when I was a kid? Seriously?

Friday Song Of The Day – Jesus Is A Friend Of Mine

For this Friday Song of the Day I am going to get a little religious… and somewhat comical. This is Jesus Is My Friend by the band, Sonseed. The band was formed in the late 1970’s at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, NY. The band was (for obvious reasons) fairly obscure until a recent post on the Dougsploitation blog and corresponding YouTube post made this song an instant viral hit. A site called Vinyl Rehab apparently has the album for sale for $5.00. There isn’t any online ordering so you’ll have to call them or email them to see if they have it in stock (good luck). Or you can download the full album in MP3 from Cabel’s Blog LOL, though I’m not sure how legal that is. Here are the lyrics so you can sing along as you watch the video (below).

CHORUS:
Jesus is a friend of mine,
(echo) Jesus is my friend,
Jesus is a friend of mine,
(echo) I have a friend in Jesus,
Jesus is a friend of mine
(echo) Jesus is my friend,
Jesus is a friend of mine

VERSE 1:
He taught me how to live my life as it should be
He taught me how to turn my cheek when people laugh at me
I’ve had friends before and I can tell you that
He’s one who will never leave you flat

(REPEAT CHORUS)

VERSE 2:
He taught me how to pray and how to save my soul
He taught me how to praise my God and still play rock and roll
The music may sound different but the message is the same
It’s just an instrument to praise His name

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(INSTRUMENTAL BREAK)

Jesus is a friend of mine,
Jesus is a friend of mine

VERSE 3:
Once I tried to run; I tried to run and hide
But Jesus came and found me and He touched me down inside
He is like a mounty; He always gets His man
And He’ll zap you any way He can … ZAP!

(REPEAT CHORUS)

VERSE 4:
He loves me when I’m right; He loves me when I’m wrong
He loves me when I waste my time by writing silly songs
He loves me when I’m quiet and I have nothing to say
He’ll love me when I’m perfect if I ever get that way

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Friday Song Of The Day – Go Your Own Way

Today is my official last day at a job, so I thought I’d post a song about moving on. This song is about couples breaking up, and more specifically about the split-up of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, so it doesn’t really apply. But I like the song so here it is. Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac from their Rumours (1977) album.

Loving you
Isn’t the right thing to do
How can I
Ever change things that I feel
If I could
Baby, I’d give you my world
How can I
When you won’t take it from me

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up’s all you wanna do
If I could
Baby, I’d give you my world
Open up
Everything’s waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it another lonely day (another lonely day)
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it another lonely day

You can go your own way
You can call it another lonely day
You can go your own way

There a cool video of the band playing this song live in 1977 on YouTube, but embedding has been disabled so you’ll have to go to the link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GN2kpBoFs4

Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

I love the song Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk. In fact I’ve been listening to the thing off and on all day. I just ran across this video featuring the song that I thought was really cool. It starts off a bit cheesy, but hang in there… it’s well worth it.

EDIT:Ok, then I saw this one which is probably even better.

Friday Song Of The Day – Rapture

I was in a Blondie mood this Friday so today I bring you Rapture from Autoamerican.

Toe to toe dancing very close
Body breathing almost comatose
Wall to wall people hypnotized
And they’re stepping lightly
Hang each night in rapture

Back to back sacroiliac
Spineless movement and a wild attack
Face to face sightless solitude
And it’s finger popping
Twenty four hour shopping in rapture

(Rapping)
Fab Five Freddy told me everybody’s fly
DJ spinning I said “My My”
Flash is fast flash is cool
François sait pas flashe no do
And you don’t stop sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and it lands on the ground
And out comes the man from Mars
And you try to run but he’s got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you’re in the man from Mars
You go out at night eating cars
You eat Cadillacs Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subaru
And you don’t stop
You keep on eating cars
Then when there’s no more cars you go out at night
And eat up bars where the people meet
Face to face
Dance cheek to cheek
One to one
Man to man
Dance toe to toe
Don’t move too slow ’cause the man from Mars is through with cars
He’s eating bars
Yeah wall to wall
Door to door
Hall to hall
He’s gonna eat ’em all
Rapture
Be pure
Take a tour through the sewer
Don’t strain your brain
Paint a train
You’ll be singing in the rain
Said don’t stop to the punk rock

(Optional Lyrics)
Man to man, body muscular
Sismic decibel by the jugular
Wall to wall, tea time technology and a digital ladder
No sign of bad luck in rapture
(End Optional Lyrics)

Well now you see what you wanna be
Just have your party on TV
‘Cause the man from Mars won’t eat up bars where the TV’s on
And now he’s gone back up to space where he won’t have a hassle with the
human race
And you hip hop
And you don’t stop
Just blast off sure shot
Because the man from Mars stopped eating cars
And eating bars
And now he only eats guitars
Get up!

Friday Song Of The Day – Till You’re Gone

I chose today’s song not so much based on the actual music, but more on the music video. I’m a pianist and so is the leader of this band, Gabe Dixon, so that sort of resonated with me. But the really cool thing about the video is that they created a human piano with people laying down. You can see the clothes of various “keys” changing from white to red to indicate the piano parts being played. Anyway, I liked it. Here is Till You’re Gone by The Gabe Dixon Band from their self-titled album (The Gabe Dixon Band).

When you told me you were leaving
It put me down for a while
I couldn’t believe it
Put a cramp in my style

Got a job in California
Said you’d been waiting on it for so long
Well just remember, I’ll be here for ya till you’re gone

Till you’re gone
I’ll be by your side
Till you’re gone
I’ll be your good time every night
So while you’re packing and planning to go your way
Listen baby, when I say
Let’s keep on keepin’ on till you’re gone

Well I guess we had a good run
Never had much to lose
I know I had a lotta good fun
And that you benefited too

So as long as you’re willin’
Girl you know that you can’t go wrong
So just remember, I’ll be here for ya till you’re gone

Till you’re gone
I’ll be by your side
Till you’re gone
I’ll be your good time every night
So while you’re packing and planning to go your way
Listen baby, when I say
Let’s keep on keepin’ on till you’re gone

Till you’re gone
I’ll be by your side
Till you’re gone
I’ll be your good time every night
So while you’re packing and planning to go your way
Listen baby, when I say
Let’s keep on keepin’ on till you’re gone

Finally, here is the music video.

Friday Song Of The Day – Senior Don Gato

Today’s song comes to you all the way from elementary school chorus. This is The Ballad of Senior Don Gato, a story of youth, love, tragedy and miracles. Oh… it’s also about a cat!

The Ballad Of Senior Don Gato

Oh Senior Don Gato was a cat
On a high red roof Don Gato sat
He went there to read a letter (meow, meow, meow)
Where the reading light was better (meow, meow, meow)
Twas a love note for Don Gato

“I adore you,” wrote the lady cat
Who was fluffy, white and nice and fat
There was not a sweeter kitty (meow, meow, meow)
In the country or the city (meow, meow, meow)
And she said she’d wed Don Gato

Oh, Don Gato jumped so happily
He fell off the roof and broke his knee
Broke his ribs and all his whiskers (meow, meow, meow)
And his little solar plexus (meow, meow, meow)
“Aye carumba!” cried Don Gato

Then the doctors all came on the run
Just to see if something could be done
And they held a consultation (meow, meow, meow)
About how to save their patient (meow, meow, meow)
How to save Senior Don Gato

But in spite of everything they tried
Poor Senior Don Gato up and died
Oh, it wasn’t very merry (meow, meow, meow)
Going to the cemetery (meow, meow, meow)
For the ending of Don Gato

When the funeral passed the market square
Such a smell of fish was in the air
Though his burial was slated (meow, meow, meow)
He became reanimated (meow, meow, meow)
He came back to life, Don Gato!

Ole!

When I was searching for a video to post with this one, there were a huge selection to choose from. I ended up on the one that had the best musical representation (at least I think so). This is a rendition of the song by The Sizzling Happy Family, a rock parody band that has quite a cult following. Anyway, they do a great job on this song. If you can make it to the end listen to the high note the lead singer pelts out… amazing. He must have been a music student in college.
